Model measurements let you record a dimension or area and return to it during review. An active measurement is temporary until you choose Save Measurement. Shared viewers may inspect saved measurements but cannot create, update, or delete them.

Before measuring, confirm the facility, model scale, and selected units. Display precision controls rounding; it is not a statement of measurement accuracy. If the model scale or orientation is questionable, ask authorized staff to verify it before using the result.

Choose the measurement type

  • Distance: place two points for a straight-line distance.
  • Circle: place three points around the circular feature. The displayed result is its diameter, marked with Ø. Spread the points around the feature instead of putting them nearly in a straight line.
  • Rectangle: place four corner points around the area in perimeter order. The result is area in square units; the viewer can also display side dimensions.
  • Invert Depth: follow the prompts to select the pipe invert point first, then the frame/cover point. This uses the model's upright reference, so it should not be treated as interchangeable with a sloping straight-line distance.

Inspect each point from another angle when practical. A point on the wrong visible surface can produce a plausible but incorrect value.

Create and save a result

  1. Open Measure in the model viewer and select the type.
  2. Select Units: Meters, Feet, or Inches. Choose Precision: 1, 0.1, 0.01, or 0.001.
  3. Set Snap for the point-placement behavior you need. Use N to toggle it when the viewer has focus.
  4. Press M to enable measurement mode, or hold Shift while clicking each point. Place the required points on the model. Use Clear Measurement or C to start over if a point is wrong.
  5. Review the geometry and result. Enter a meaningful name in Label Saved Measurement.
  6. Optionally choose Link Screenshot and an available Measurement 1 or Measurement 2 slot.
  7. Choose Save Measurement. Then open Saved Measurements and confirm the result was saved.

Save Measurement stays disabled until a valid active measurement exists. Starting another temporary measurement is not proof that the previous one was saved.

Review saved measurements and evidence links

Open Saved Measurements to find recorded results. Use the item's available display control to show its geometry in the model and check the label and value. Keep labels specific enough for another reviewer to identify the feature.

A screenshot can have two linked measurement slots. If a selected screenshot has no free slot, choose another screenshot or review its existing links. Do not overwrite a meaningful link merely to make a new save succeed. Saved screenshots and measurements belong to the file, so the same evidence can appear in multiple viewer modes.

If a model has been edited, rescaled, or replaced, review existing measurements in that context before reusing them in a report. Treat any stale or unavailable indication as a reason to verify the result.

Resolve common problems

  • Cannot save: check point count and validity, then confirm you are not in a read-only shared view.
  • Unexpected value: check units, model scale, selected type, and whether each point landed on the intended surface.
  • Screenshot list is empty: save a screenshot for the same file first.
  • No open screenshot slot: choose another capture or review the occupied links.
  • Saved result is missing: verify the facility and reopen Saved Measurements; record any error message before retrying.
